What is the Domain Name System (DNS)?

Custom Software Development

How Does DNS Work?

    • DNS acts as an online directory linking each domain to the IP address of the server hosting the website.

    • Domain names are divided into levels:

      • Primary domain (e.g., wikipedia)

      • Top-Level Domain (TLD) (e.g., .org, .com)

How Are Domain Names Assigned?

Domain names are registered through an internet provider, which checks if the name is available and not already in use. Only after this confirmation can the domain be registered and linked to your server.

Why is DNS Important?

  • Without DNS, we could not easily access websites using simple names.

  • It ensures that each domain is correctly linked to the appropriate server.

  • It makes the Internet more understandable and usable for everyone.

Conclusion:
DNS is the “guide” of the Internet, converting human-friendly names into numbers that computers understand. Thanks to it, we can visit our favorite websites without needing to remember complex IP addresses.
